Description

**Edit** Thank you so very much for the Daily Deviation! I really appreciate it!
I am sorry that I can't personally say "Thank you" to everybody who has visited. But please believe me: you're all amazing. And I can't thank you enough!

Well, 30,000 hits have come and gone and no one picked up the kiriban.
It means I get to do something fun for myself and share with the rest of you.

I've been meaning to finish this piece for... years. When I saw the source material, I promised myself that I'd do something with it. It's a powerful image that spoke to me on many levels. Besides, if you've known me for a while... you might know that I was a big fan of the "neo-Japaneseque" J-rock band Kagrra, (yes, the comma is part of the name.) They finished their last tour on March 3rd, 2011; their lead singer tragically passed away at a young age soon after. More of a reason to get off my butt and get this done, really.

So... for the many reasons above, why don't you share this moment with me?

Artist's note:
1. Pattern credit: The incomparable Fukaya Yuichiro, for the equally incomparable Kagrra,. More information here: www.ne.jp/asahi/hard/pain/
2. Equipment: Cutting board, artisan cutting blade (#11)
3. Paper: Black lines - Recollections Card Stock by Michael's Inc. (65lbs/176gsm)
            Various origami paper (40lbs/60gsm)
Various hand-made natural papers (various weights)
            Various chiyogami/Yuzen (various weights)
4. Size: Each panel is 3" x 5" (but you can still see the ruler)
5. Time: 40-45hrs
6. Title credit: "Furinkazan" is the battle banner used by the Sengoku period daimyo Takeda Shingen, paraphrasing Sun Tsu's "Art of War". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C5%ABr…. The character featured on the back piece is a Buddhist deity known as Fudo Myo-o in Japan and Acala in India; he is known as the leader of the "Wisdom Kings". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acala

A big thanks to the local independently-owned art store "The Urchin" for the wonderful and inspiring paper collection. And thanks for all the help! www.urchingreen.ca/
