Description

Hmm... what do I say about this one?

Well, for starters, this is done for :iconizka197:'s Lolita/Gothic lolita contest. More information and other contestants can be seen here: [link] (Annnd, as with any other contest I have taken part of, the chance of me winning is close to nil. That's becoming a pattern, if I may say so.)

Now, why this specific person in this specific picture?
Dear me, I wish I could tell you. The only thing I can think of is that I've been watching "Tokyo Gore Police" and being forced to sit in for long hours listening to really long presentations.

Whether those are valid reasons is up to you to decide...

[EDIT] Thanks to all the wonderful folks who have provided me with some very useful feedback, I've attempted to change the hands around to the best of my abilities here. I've also modified the petals a little more. Please keep commenting.

[EDIT] Oh, my... it looks like I've got an honourable mention with this piece. That's not half bad at all! Here are the winners: [link]

Let me first start off saying how nice this picture turned out. You want one, right? Well here it is.

Let's begin with the graphics; I know that keeping the Gothic theme is important without dark colors. I've already seen red and black combo which is common, but this one breaks with another color, white. Now that's a nice three combo to go for this theme. I think how she laid there where the light hits actually goes pretty good.
Shading is also pretty good up close. You did a great job shading on the roses, her hair, and of course her dress.
One last thing to say in the graphical department is the textures for laces and frills. Upon closer inspection, the textures look great.
One thing that I noticed is that the pedals have shadows casting under them. I wouldn't place shadows like that if they're in the air, if they're on the ground, be sure you create shadows where the light hits.

Now for the anatomy, you made a nice body and face. I think you got the proportion lengths right if she were to stand straight up. As much as I love your character design, I happen to encounter several body issues.
First are her hands, I know they're pretty challenging to deal with, especially in this position. Her left hand looked odd; the main and pinky fingers are longer than the middle fingers. Her thumb looked unnaturally long too. Although her other hand is a little more correct, there appears to be a gap missing near the thumb area.
Lastly, her right leg also seemed to be in an odd position, if I were to do that in real life, I will feel uncomfortable.
My suggestion is to keep trying, and don't be afraid to use references if needed. A quick lil advice is to shorten the main and pinky fingers, and make the middle two fingers slightly longer (the middle finger should be the tallest). As for the leg, I don't have a proper advice on that, just remember to use refs and keep on trying.

The last thing I shall say is what I think of this overall picture. Scattered is very nice, the main focus I see is your fashion design and color theme. They go great with the background, which I also have to say it's not bad. In short, I think of this as a Gothic beauty theme.

In conclusion, you did a very good job on the colors, design, and theme. Although there's not much 'originality' to say here, you did however made something unique in a way to make Scattered stand out a little more. With a little more practice, you'll soon be a great artist. All I can say is you did great overall.
