How many doctors does it take?

It's an old skipping rhyme, to be chanted by the children playing with a skipping rope:
"Cinderella, dressed in yellow,
Went upstairs to kiss her fellow.
By mistake, kissed a snake.
How many doctors does it take...?" 

There has been many variations of this children's skipping rhyme out there, but it highlights (and implies) a few very important things in life. One... we hate snakes. Some studies show that a third of the population dislikes snakes, a small portion of them fear snakes to the extent that they can't bear to even see one printed on paper. Much like some of the most common phobias, the fear of snakes is a primal one that once upon a time had its purpose in preservation of life. But over the years the snake has taken on much more meaning than just an animal with venomous fangs. The fear of snakes expanded, through the heavy-handed implication from scriptures, into an encompassing fear of nature, growing up, sexuality and sin. The first psychoanalysts probably had a field day when they realised the snake was a phallic symbol and banked their whole careers on that discovery. All of a sudden, the skipping rhyme can be read in a completely different way... or may be a few more. But everyone almost every bit as scary as the other.
